Why Stranger Chat exists
Random stranger chat is one of the internet's oldest and most magical ideas. We're here to bring it back — done right.
Our mission
For over a decade, Omegle and its imitators connected millions of people to complete strangers. Then, one by one, they shut down or turned into paywalled, ad-riddled shells of what they were. Our mission is simple: keep that wonderful "talk to a random person" experience alive — free, anonymous, and built on technology we can all trust.
What we believe
- Free means free. No hidden paywalls, no credit cards, no "premium" that gates basic features.
- Privacy by design. No sign-up, no tracking pixels, no data brokers. Anonymity is a feature, not an afterthought.
- Safety first. Reporting, blocking and moderation aren't afterthoughts — they're core to a healthy community.
- Open source. Our entire stack is public. Anyone can review how matching, chat and moderation work, or self-host their own instance.
- No gimmicks. Clean UI, fast matching, works on every device. The magic is in the conversation, not the website.
The tech
Stranger Chat is built entirely with free, open-source technology: React and Vite for the interface, Node.js and Socket.IO for real-time matching and messaging, and WebRTC for peer-to-peer video. There are no paid APIs, no Firebase, no third-party matching services — everything runs on our own servers.
Join the community
Stranger Chat is for anyone who's ever wondered who they'd meet if the internet picked for them. Whether you're here for a fun chat, to practice a language, or just to cure boredom — welcome. Start a conversation and see where it goes.
