How random matching works
When you join, you enter a queue for your chosen mode — text or video. Each time someone joins, the matchmaker scans for the best partner using three rules: shared interests when both people set them, a cooldown so you never re-match the same person, and a permanent block list so someone you blocked can never reach you again.
If your interests are niche, the matchmaker gently relaxes them after a short wait so you still get matched instead of waiting forever. Most people connect in under two seconds.
Text, video or both
Random chat works in two modes. Text chat is keyboard-only and fully invisible. Video chat is live and face to face — but your camera is always optional. Many people start with text and graduate to video when they feel comfortable.
Both modes support skipping. Press Next to leave a dead conversation and meet someone new, or Stop to leave the queue. There is no limit on how many people you can meet.
